Our Approach

The Ethiopian Children’s Fund (ECF) is a non-governmental organization committed to supporting the most vulnerable—primarily children without parents—who are least able to advocate for themselves.
Our flagship initiative in Ethiopia is the Education & Development Program (EDP) in Aleltu—an innovative, integrated model designed to protect and uplift highly disadvantaged children and their communities, many of whom are affected by extreme poverty and social challenges such as HIV/AIDS.
The EDP provides a community-based solution to the crisis of orphaned and at-risk children while acting as a catalyst for broader, sustainable community development. ECF is grounded in the belief that long-term emotional and psychological well-being for children depends on a sense of belonging within a family and community.
ECF works to safeguard children at risk of neglect, abandonment, and exploitation by supporting them within the context of their families and communities. Through this integrated approach, we offer essential services in early childhood development, quality education, primary health care, food supplementation, and life skills training. A cornerstone of our model is ensuring that children remain with their nuclear families, extended relatives, or foster families—strengthening their roots within the community.
Beyond direct child support, ECF facilitates comprehensive community outreach programs in areas such as:
Health and hygiene education
Positive parenting and reproductive health
Environmental conservation
Vocational training and entrepreneurship development
ECF is guided by values of civic responsibility, initiative, sustainability, and partnership. We serve as a bridge—connecting concerned individuals, members of the Ethiopian diaspora, businesses, foundations, and international philanthropists to some of the most marginalized children and families in Ethiopia.
